The Childress Family Foundation Scholarship aims to recognize Mayfair High School Student Athletes and support their college education. Up to 3 $10,000 awards will be offered annually to newly graduating Mayfair seniors who are accepted to a 2 year or 4 year university or trade school.
Who is eligible?
The one-time award is open to graduating Mayfair High School student athletes that have been admitted to a 2 or 4 year university or trade school; Up to three students will be chosen.
When are applications due?
Applications will open March 18th, 2025 and are due Monday, April 14th, 2024. Applicants will be notified by May 13th, 2025.

Who selects the awardees?
Awardees will be selected by the following committee of Mayfair High School Alumni:
Josh Childress — Class of 2001. Following a stellar high school career, Josh attended Stanford University where he graduated with a BA in Sociology. Josh spent 15 years as a professional basketball player in the NBA, Greece, Australia and Japan. In 2010, Josh founded the Childress Family Foundation to provide mentorship and resources to high school and collegiate athletes. He also established and funded the Josh Childress Athletic Scholarship at Stanford University, Stanford’s first ever summer studies scholarship, allowing student athletes the opportunity to continue their degree pursuits in the summer. Upon retirement in 2019, Josh Co-Founded Landspire Group, an Orange County based real estate investment firm to further his commitment to community development and expand investment platforms for people of color. In 2022, Josh was inducted into the Stanford Athletics Hall of Fame.
Edwin Draughan — Class of 2001. Following a stellar high school career, Edwin played basketball for Yale University and graduated with a BA in American Studies. After playing professional basketball for 10 years in Switzerland, France and Hungary, Edwin founded a wealth management firm that cultivates the financial well-being of professional athletes. Having earned his MBA at USC Marshall School of Business, Edwin is now a Vice President at Park Lane, a boutique investment bank with a sports focus based in Los Angeles.
Jeffrey Bonds— Class of 2000. After a standout career at Mayfair High School, Jeff attended California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. While being a member of the men’s basketball team for four years, he earned a BS in Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing Management. In 2016, Jeff was inducted into the Cal Poly Pomona Hall of Fame. After a 10 year professional basketball career in England, Spain, Germany, Finland and Austria, Jeff decided to become a life coach, transitioning into a high school and community college counselor. Jeff earned his Master of Science in Educational Counseling with a PPSC Credential, and currently works at Foothill High School and Orange Coast College.

Who: If you are enrolled at Aim High, you can apply for a scholarship to learn something new!
What: You can apply for up to $250 to cover the cost of a class or program you want to do (things like dance classes, music lessons, sports teams, art courses, outdoor activities, and more). This activity should begin no later than October 31, 2023.
When: All Aim High 2023 applications must be submitted no later than 2:00 pm, Monday July 31st.
How: Please follow these steps in order to apply:
- Create a Submittable login account.
- Complete the following online application. You can save a draft of your application and work on it later if you want.
- Submit your application when you are done.
Payment: Instead of issuing a check made payable to the activity provider, we will send students virtual gift cards from GiveCard directly to the parents' email address. Parents will receive information on how the gift card works and how it can be used to pay for their students' activities online.

Who: If you are enrolled in the 5th-8th grade at one of our Partner sites, you can apply for a Youth Opportunity scholarship to try something new!
What: Apply for up to $500 to cover the cost of a class or program you want to do, such as dance classes, music lessons, art courses, sports and more. Check out the resource lists for ideas.
When: Contact your YOS Site Liaison to find out when the applications are due.
How: Please follow these steps in order to apply:
- Create a Submittable login account.
- Complete the following online application. You can save a draft of your application and work on it later if you want.
- Submit your application when you are done. Once you hit submit, your application is final and cannot be edited. (If you need to make any changes, please check in with your YOS Site Liaison.)
